Chris Smith Needs Fan Support for Canadian Smooth Jazz Award

Online Voting Begins today

Toronto, Ontario, January 11 2010 — Singer/songwriter, Chris Smith, is counting on fan support to help him win a Canadian Smooth Jazz Award. Online voting begins today at www.canadiansmoothjazzawards.com and runs through February 19.

Chris is nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year among a group of very talented candidates.

This is Chris’s ninth nomination for a Canadian Smooth Jazz Award, having previously been a contender for Male Vocalist of the Year, Album or the Year and Song or the Year.

“It's great to be nominated,” said Chris.”I put a lot of effort into my craft and I see the nomination as recognition from the industry and peers that my music is interesting and meaningful. But, it would be nice to win.”

The online popular vote format has yet to pay off for Chris, who has always been nominated alongside internationally renowned performers. This year Chris is nominated alongside heavyweight, Michael Bublé.

The Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards will be held April 23, 2010, at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.

Chris Smith began his professional music career with the rock band Regatta which was signed to an international record deal with BMG. Despite Regatta’s success, Chris knew his future lay in jazz and pop. He leapt into a solo career in 1995 with the release of his debut, “Room Inside My Heart”. To date, three more albums have followed: “Real Thing”, “Back To You”, and “Let The Ball Roll”. A favourite on Canada’s premier smooth jazz station, Wave 94.7, Chris has seen his fan base grow steadily while winning critical acclaim and industry recognition. In the company of such successful artists as Michael Bublé and Diana Krall, Chris has been nominated for nine Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards including Best Album, Best Song and Best Male Vocalist.
